n Toby Makes a New Friend, Toby and Maggie decide to have a race. Maggie is sure that she will win. Halfway through the race, the two discover something in the water and forget about the race altogether. On close inspection, they find a new friend and end up playing in the harbour together for the rest of the day. There is a lesson to be learned in this book in that Toby learns that to play a game or compete in a race, he has to stick to the rules of the game or otherwise it’s not fair.
A very important part of any child's developement is that they, as soon as possible get an opportunity to develope their social skills. One only has to look around the workplace to see that some grown-ups would have turned out very differently if they had such an opportunity. The idea behind this book stems from that very idea.
